Over the last year, The Arc of Tucson has organized a Homewares Center that makes available, for free, household goods for needy people with developmental disabilities.  The Center is located at the Community Resource Center at 29 ^th and Swan in Building 12, use the West entrance.  Anyone who needs items like sheets, comforters, pillows, curtains, kitchen items, small rugs and the like can get these items through their Support Coordinator.

The Homewares Center is made possible by an innovative program run by Gifts in Kind International, which sets up partnerships between non-profit organizations and local retailers who donate items that are overstocked or out of season. The Arc of Tucson is fortunate to have a partnership with several retailers who sell nice quality goods so the items we have in the Homewares Center are of good quality.

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Thelma Yslas as manager  of our Homewares Center. The Homewares Center has grown considerably in the last few years with the help of a number of volunteers, but the work of running it was getting too difficult  to manage with just volunteers. Thelma was hired to manage the Center and its volunteers. She already has made a huge difference in the physical organization of the items available in the Center. She has several wonderful volunteers working with her. Together, in the month of October, they distributed for free over 300 needed household items to 30 people served by DDD.
The Homewares Center inventory includes sheets, comforters, mattress pads, pillows, towels, curtains, kitchenware and many useful and pretty items for decorating.  Items can be obtained from the Homewares Center through a person's support coordinator
